COP21Elise J. Willer

Elise has a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University, and dual master’s degrees in Sustainable International Development and Coexistence & Conflict Resolution from Brandeis University. She earned her certificate in Mediation and Conflict Management from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. In her career, Elise has lived and worked in 8 countries contributing to her culturally sensitive approach to conflict prevention and resolution.

As Elise traveled the world, she had the opportunity to “try on” a variety of different professions and although she enjoyed the challenges of policy work, the inspiration of teaching, the teamwork in management, and the growth in academia, she was continually reminded how poorly managed conflict leads to failed policy, underachieving classrooms, and unsuccessful leadership. This lead her to found Journey Thru Conflict, in an attempt to help people all over the world navigate the conflict in their lives with grace and ease.

“In situations of conflict and difficulty, I am witness to the beautiful complexity of what it is to be human. I am convinced that working through conflict in a responsible manner gives us incredible opportunity for growth and discovery. People often say “what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger” and I believe my work with people in conflict has proven that adage over and over again”
